Policy
Health and Safety
Introduction:
The welfare of children and young people is paramount, and Liverpool Educational Grants Charitable Trust (LEGCT) expects all grant-funded activities involving them to be safe, well planned, and properly supervised. Although we do not organise or directly deliver activities or undertake visits, we have a duty to remind recipients of LECGT funding that they are responsible for implementing health and safety measures for all funded work. It is also important to consider the welfare of adults, such as staff and volunteers, who will be involved in supporting funded events.
The requirements outlined in this document are advisory and serve as guidance only. They apply to any activity, visit, trip, event, or initiative funded wholly or partly by a LEGCT grant. Nevertheless, the ultimate responsibility lies with recipients of LEGCT funding to ensure suitable measures are in place.
This guidance applies to:
- Liverpool schools receiving LEGCT grants;
- Organisations delivering activities on behalf of funded schools, and
- Individual students or student groups receiving awards.
Grant recipients should ensure that:
- The event or activity is appropriately planned, inclusive, and accessible to all participants, taking into account any additional needs, disabilities, or medical conditions, with reasonable adjustments made where necessary;
- Health & Safety policies and procedures are in place and followed;
- Risks are identified, assessed, and managed proportionately;
- Safeguarding policies and procedures are in place;
- Activities comply with relevant UK legislation and school or organisational policies;
- Required permissions and consents are obtained;
- Appropriate first aid provision and clear emergency procedures are in place, and
- The activity or event is covered by appropriate insurance.
NB: (1) A checklist is set out in Appendix One. (2) For further information regarding safeguarding and risk assessment, please refer to the LEGCT separate advisory document.
Evidence and Assurance:
Acceptance of LEGCT funding by recipients confirms full responsibility for health and safety measures being in place.
Before releasing funds, LEGCT may request confirmation that the necessary health and safety measures are in place, evidence of insurance, and that a responsible lead has been appointed.
Changes to this Policy:
This health and safety guidance document will be regularly reviewed and may be updated from time to time. Updates will be posted on the LEGCT website with a revised issue date.
