About

Liverpool Education Grants Charitable Trust (LEGCT) provides grants, bursaries, and seed funding to support students and schools across the city.

LEGCT is the operating name of the registered charity Liverpool Council of Education (Incorporated). The new logo and operating name were recently introduced in response to feedback, to make the charity’s purpose clearer and more recognisable to potential applicants.

The charity’s primary mission is to provide grants and awards to Liverpool secondary schools and students for educational initiatives that lie outside standard school funding.

In addition to this core mission, LEGCT also offers:

  • Modest individual bursaries for students in their final year of secondary school, and
  • Seed funding for projects that support the wider development of young people in the Liverpool area

These funds are administered separately from our primary school-focused grants.

LEGCT takes great pride in its long and distinguished history, dating back to the 19th century. It became an incorporated charitable company in 1925 and will celebrate its centenary in September 2025. Thanks to careful financial stewardship, the Trust is in a strong position to continue supporting education in Liverpool well into the future. In line with its constitution, the Trustees are confident that LEGCT will continue to provide meaningful support for local schools and students in the years ahead.

Nonetheless, the charity is always seeking to expand its impact. By growing its funds through donations and legacies, LEGCT can broaden the scope of its support, creating even more opportunities for future generations.

Looking ahead, LEGCT’s vision for the next 100 years is to strengthen its role in shaping education in Liverpool, encouraging innovation, and empowering students to achieve their full potential.
